Who might run in the 2024 GOP primaries? Not Ted Cruz, or at least that’s what the Texas Senator wants you to think. Ted Cruz is a clear potential candidate in the eyes of many voters. During the Republican Jewish Coalition annual leadership conference in Las Vegas, Nevada at the end of 2022, Cruz mentioned wanting to stay focused on Senate. Still, he left room for a potential fight for the White House in 2024.
“I’m fighting in the Senate. I’m running for re-election in the Senate. I’m focused on the battles in the United States Senate,” the conservative firebrand senator from Texas said as he answered a question from Fox News on whether he would run for president or re-election in 2024.
But Cruz, in a follow-up question, did not rule out a presidential run. Asked if he should not be considered a potential White House contender anymore, Cruz answered “I’m focused on the fight. … There will be plenty of time to discuss 2024 presidential, they’ll be plenty of time for that.”
Cruz is a hopeful candidate for some since he took second place in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, only behind former President Trump. While he might not be Ron DeSantis, and have the earlier following the Florida Governor has, he does have a following of his own and left the possibility open. There is still time for the fog to lift. Who knows what might happen as we get closer to the slue of announces expected for this year.
