Alec Baldwin May Face Criminal Prosecution

On the set of the movie “Rust,” Alec Baldwin fired a loaded gun at the camera causing property damage and death. A recent development in the case means that he may actually face criminal charges.

The entertainment website TMZ reported that District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies may prosecute actor Alec Baldwin. When he was on set, he fired a loaded gun and killed cinematographer Haylana Hutchins.

Carmack-Altwies filed an emergency request last week. He asked the New Mexico Board of Finance to fund support for “up to four possible criminal cases.” While she did not say that she would necessarily file charges, she stated that she wanted the funding in place if she deemed prosecution to be necessary.

She asked for $635,000 and the state board granted her $317,000. She stated that she “will be requesting a special appropriation for the rest of the money.”

She went on to say that “one of the possible defendants is well known movie actor Alec Baldwin,” and that she was “certainly looking at all the homicide statutes and any gun statutes under New Mexico criminal code.”

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office will release more information in the coming weeks.
