Background: New York has been investigating Donald Trump’s real estate business since 2019, specifically if it manipulated the value of assets for tax purposes.
Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, triggered the investigation when he turned over Trump’s financial records to Congress.
Cohen testified that his former boss “inflated his total assets when it served his purposes” and “deflated his assets to reduce his real estate taxes.”
