During the annual Interfaith Breakfast in Manhattan, New York City Mayor and potential 2024 Presidental candidate Eric Adams claimed on Tuesday at the 30th Anniversary of the World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993, Adam’s caught the attention of everyone, saying that removing prayers from schools led to guns being brought into schools.
In the past few months, the possible candidate for the 2024 presidential election has diverged from President Biden’s policies and has urged him to address the border crisis which is only adding to the growing issues arising in New York City, including overburdened education systems, homelessness, and crime. Adams has opted to refrain from criticizing Republican figures, such as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, for transferring migrants to New York. Instead, he concentrates on the fundamental problem of an enormous influx of undetected migrants into the country.
The religious leaders in attendance applauded Adams’ statement. The mayor was addressing the potential for religious individuals to help alleviate societal issues.
Tuesday at the 30th Anniversary of the World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993,, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said:
“Don’t tell me about no separation of church and state. State is the body. Church is the heart. You take the heart out of the body, the body dies,”
“I can’t separate my belief because I’m an elected official. When I walk, I walk with God. When I talk, I talk with God. When I put policies in place, I put them in with a God-like approach to them. That’s who I am.”
“As the mayor said before an interfaith group comprised of hundreds of representatives from a multitude of religions, you can’t remove the heart from the body. The policies we make as an administration are rooted in the mayor’s belief in his creator. The mayor personally believes all of our faiths would ensure we are humane to one another.”
While the concept of “Separation of Church and State” is deeply ingrained in American culture, as it guarantees citizens the freedom to practice any religion of their choice, there may be limits to these values. When a society moves away from religious worship to an excessive degree, it may lead to a degradation of culture, resulting in the normalization of violent and immoral behavior.
The situation in New York City is a prime example of what happens when politicians and culture prioritize banning guns, political correctness, and prison reform tactics over religion. As a result, religion has taken a back seat in the culture of not only New York City but also many other parts of the country. However, politicians still believe they can legislate morality instead of addressing the underlying cultural problem that is growing.
Adams identifies as a Christian, and developed a Faith-Based Property Development Initiative was established by Adams to assist religious institutions in developing property for the betterment of the community. This includes constructing affordable housing and creating areas for community activities.
In an email to Fox News Digital on Wednesday, Fabien Levy, the press secretary for the mayor, stated:
“While everyone in the room immediately understood what the mayor meant, it’s unfortunate that some have attempted to hijack the narrative in an effort to misrepresent the mayor’s comments.”
