During his first campaign trips to New Hampshire and South Carolina, Donald Trump took aim at Republican contender Ron DeSantis’ COVID-19 response and claimed that Florida was “closed for a long period of time.” Trump said that DeSantis is trying to rewrite history regarding his COVID response, even though Florida was one the first states which reopened schools, stores, and refused to impose strict preventive restrictions during the pandemic. Trump does not seem to understand that DeSantis’ relaxed COVID measures were key to developing his political brand and a major reason why he is so popular in Florida.
Trump also remarked that DeSantis is “very disloyal” for running and branded him as a globalist. Trump told the AP, “He’s going to have to do what he wants to do, but he may run. I do think it would be a great act of disloyalty because, you know, I got him in. He had no chance. His political life was over.”
Later on, Trump took to Truth Social and attacked DeSantis as globalist, writing:
The Club For No Growth is a GLOBALIST group that I have been taking to the cleaners for years. We worked together for a period, but they couldn’t get away from China, Europe, Asia, and part’s unknown. They know I won’t play that game, I am America First all the way. That’s the ONLY way we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Ron DeSanctimonious, who I made Governor in BOTH the Primary & the General, is also a Globalist, & so are his donors. For The Life of Me, I do not understand why DeSantis and Trump don’t team up!!! The Country needs them both. DeSantis would virtually ave a shoe-in in 2028…for gosh sake, don’t make enemies of each other!
Why attack your fellow Republican? Trump needs a talking to on how to be a diplomat…. I loved Trump but his arrogance and mouth lets him down !! But I do think he was a great President. But DeSantis is a good choice too.
