From American Briefing:
After more than 50 illegal immigrants were found dead in a tractor-trailer near San Antonio, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) bluntly blamed the Biden administration’s “deadly open border policies.” Despite excuses from the White House, Mexico’s president appeared to agree.
The group of immigrants – made up of those from Mexicans, Guatemalans, and Hondurans – were apparently left abandoned in the truck in sweltering heat after being smuggled across the southern border.
“It appears that they had been part of a potential human smuggling operation and the best we can determine; they had been there for perhaps a couple of days,” Eric Hightower, Deputy Chief, SAPD said according to News 4 San Antonio.
In a brief statement on Twitter, Abbott said the deaths were a consequence of Biden’s “refusal to enforce the law”.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre disputed the accusation, saying the Biden administration was committed to fighting human smuggling.
However, the administration was among those decrying Governor Abbott’s truck screening measures at seven international ports of entry in anticipation of Title 42’s end.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador appeared to agree that more regulation was needed, criticizing the “lack of control” at the southern border in a press briefing, according to the BBC.
Last month saw yet another record amount of attempted crossings, as the Border Patrol shared that officials apprehended more immigrants in May than any other month since records have been kept.
