Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is considering running for Congress, according to multiple reports.
New York Democrats in the state Legislature on Wednesday passed a new congressional map for the Empire State that could cut up to four Republicans from its congressional delegation. Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to sign the map into law in the coming days.
The new maps also change the House district where de Blasio’s Brooklyn address lies. He’s been moved from a district represented by Democratic Rep. Yvette Clarke, a political ally, to a district currently represented by GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.
The lines of Malliotakis’s district were shifted to benefit Democrats, still covering all of Staten Island but also taking in more liberal precincts of Brooklyn. Former Democratic Rep. Max Rose is running for a rematch with Malliotakis should he win a June primary.
