Rep. Duncan Hunter, Jr. (R-CA) retains an eight-point lead over challenger Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar in California’s 50th congressional district in the latest Monmouth College poll.
The poll, taken from September 22 to 26, has the incumbent ahead 49%-41% (with a 4.9% margin of error) among “potential” voters. When different models of likely voters are used, Hunter’s lead widens to 11 points (51% to 40%) if there is a “blue wave,” and to 15 points (53% to 38%) if midterm turnout matches historical patterns.
The results echo those of a SurveyUSA poll late last month, which also put Hunter ahead of Campa-Najjar, 47% to 39%.
Ammar is running an energetic campaign, with a strong social media presence and impressive fundraising. He is taking advantage of the fact that Hunter and his wife were recently indicted for alleged misuse of campaign funds.
