Sen. Rand Paul’s neighbor Rene Boucher will serve 30 days in prison and pay a $10,000 fine for assaulting the Kentucky Republican.
Boucher pled guilty to assaulting a member of Congress. He is also not allowed any intentional contact with Paul’s family and will also have to perform 100 hours of community service, WKYT reported.
Paul, who suffered six broken ribs in the November attack, released a short statement after the sentencing.
“No one deserves to be violently assaulted,” Paul said. “A felony conviction with jail time is appropriate and hopefully will deter the attacker from further violence. I commend the FBI and Department of Justice for treating this violent, pre-meditated assault with the seriousness it deserves.”
