After her speech at the Golden Globes, Hollywood has declared Oprah Winfrey the next President of the United States.
Meryl Streep, who attacked Donald Trump in a fiery speech at the award ceremony last year, lavished praise on Winfrey.
“She launched a rocket tonight. I want her to run for president,” Streep said, while being interviewed after the show. “I don’t think she had any intention. But now she doesn’t have a choice.”
MSNBC’s Joy-Ann Reid echoed that sentiment from Twitter: “Switched back to the Golden Globes to watch Oprah get her award. Never let it be said that I don’t respect the president of the United States.
Actor John Stamos tweeted: “#Oprah2020 !!!”
Comedian Sarah Silverman jumped into the fray, tweeting: “Oprah/Michelle 2020,” referencing Michelle Obama as a potential vice presidential pick.
Even the mainstream media was firmly on the Oprah train. NBC tweeted: “Nothing but respect for OUR future president.” The network was later forced to delete the tweet, calling it a “reference to a joke” by a “third party agency.”
As recently as June 2017, Oprah said she there was zero chance she was running for any political office – but, with the biggest stars in Hollywood standing behind her, that could make the difference.
